Donation Opportunities

Financial

HOBY Maryland is only made possible through contributions from the community. This year our seminar will continue to be in a face-to-face environment, with expenses amounting to over $100,000 this year to bring over 250 high school students and over 100 volunteers together for our 4-day flagship seminar. We expend no money for the monthly lease of an office and have paid no staff or administrative personnel, since our staff is composed entirely of volunteers. One hundred percent of our funds are used for the charitable purposes of our programs.

Sponsor a Student

Even as we strive to keep our costs low, we feel the effect of increased lodging, transportation and postage expenses. Our cost per student has risen to more than $450 per student. Schools are asked to pay a registration fee of $250. Sometimes this fee is paid by the parent/guardian. Leadership potential can be found in every corner of our state, and the ability to pay should not be a consideration. Sponsoring a high school sophomore to become a HOBY Ambassador, ensures that there is no cost to them, their parents, or their high school.

Seminar Expense Donation

The in-person state seminar expenses for room & board and program supplies (over $100,000) come from generous sponsorships from the private sector, service organizations, and individuals.

If you have any questions about donating, please contact our seminar chair.

Gifts In Kind

HOBY Maryland has an annual budget for existing programs that is over $100,000 this year. One hundred percent of our funds are used directly for conducting our programs. We spend no money for an office, and have no paid staff or administrative personnel, since our entire staff is comprised of volunteers.

One method of showing support for the seminar is the donation of products or services in-kind. Our Amazon Wishlist contains key items needed for the seminar.

If you have any questions about Gift-in Kind contributions, please contact our operations team at operations@hobymd.org.

Incentives

We appreciate any and all donations we receive. To show our appreciation we will provide certain incentives as we are able ranging from verbal recognition, your name and/or company logo in our program booklet, participating in program elements, and an alumni visiting your organization to talk about their experience. Sponsors are always needed at every level and of course you may donate above, below, and between each level. If you would like to contribute with Gifts-in-Kind, please contact our Operations Team at operations@hobymd.org.

Gifts-in-Kind sponsors will receive benefits commensurate with the cash value of the donation made, and they will be recognized in the seminar program book.

Contact operations@hobymd.org with any questions.

Volunteer Opportunities

Volunteers make a significant impact on the experience, and lives, of our ambassadors. While helping to facilitate, our volunteers have the opportunity to participate in the HOBY experience while reevaluating their own life goals with the ambassadors around them.

Coming from all over the state, country, and sometimes world – volunteers bring a wide variety of views, connections, and perspectives which challenge and teach the ambassadors how to develop critical skills to help them grow. Whether it is as a Team Alumni member, facilitator, key note speaker, or panelist our volunteers have a variety of opportunities to get involved. With volunteers aged 17 to 80+, HOBY seeks out energetic and driven individuals who want to make a difference, motivate young people and serve their communities.

Team Alumni

If you are a HOBY Alumni, have not graduated from High School yet, and want to volunteer at seminar, Team Alumni may be for you! You will work with a team of other Alumni to help deliver the best seminar experience to a new group of Ambassadors. Contact teamalumni@hobymd.org for more information.

Facilitation Team

The facilitation team works directly with small groups of Ambassadors throughout seminar. From fostering a team, debriefing a range of topics, and participating in a service project, Facilitators and Junior Facilitators guide their group of Ambassadors through their seminar experience. Reach out to facilitation@hobymd.org if  you are interested in joining the team or want to learn more.

Be a Part of Program

Our Directors of Program plan seminar weekend down to the minute. If you are interested in being a guest speaker or have a service project our Ambassadors can help with during seminar, email program@hobymd.org.

Please complete both applications to volunteer at the Leadership Seminar.
